For the purpose of this paper, will be speaking of plagiarism and why plagiarism is perhaps one of the most serious types of student misconduct happening in universities today. Plagiarism is Cheating Plagiarism is a form of cheating that goes in any type of school environment. Many students do not know plagiarism could be avoided if they cite the references properly. Plagiarism is deliberately copying someones work and turning it in to the instructor as if it was his or her own work. Giving clear adequate references enables one to use the authors ideas as a base for the work and giving detailed information on what has been learned in the respective of original work. Try using the authors words as a building block to create ideas, show the instructor the clear understanding that was made from reading the authors information then create a paper based solely on what a persons observation may be.Many people believe they can paraphrase or change a couple of words to make it sound as if they have created their own idea. Paraphrasing is changing the entire structure the sentence to the same of affect of the original sentence but in a persons own words, while showing understanding to what has just been read. A person an always paraphrase the authors words as long as the resources are cited at the end of the paper, showing the instructor those words are n ot being portrayed as being original.Resources should be cited if direct quotations are used, changed authors words but they still mean the same and if the author name has been mentioned in the paper. Knowledge of Plagiarism A person could have knowledge, a wealth of knowledge in certain things. For example, a financial advisor may give prospective customer information that will inform them of the basics on retirement accounts or savings accounts. Once the advisor provides the customer with information on the past performances, that information would need to be backed up with some form of documentation.Plagiarism could end a professionals career or a students future. To prevent plagiarism, the authors words need to be summarized in the writers words. Summarizing could get mistaken as paraphrasing. When a person paraphrases, the information is very close to the original information. In paraphrasing, usually a word or two may be changed. Documenting and listing references to support detailed specific information is one of the most important parts of a writing assignment. A person could plagiarism a paper unintentionally.Writing a quote, using quotations, but forgetting to end the statement with a quotation could be done in error. Forgetting to list a reference used on the final paper, but the reference is listed on the rough draft would be an honest mistake. The student would be disciplined, but not as sever as a person whom deliberately copied someone?s work. The professor/instructor would have to join forces with the educational institution to investigate the situation. An honest writer/student can submit their finished work to a plagiarism website to verify hat they have completed an honest assignment to prevent problems.Punishment for proven plagiarism could be from receiving an F in the course or being suspended from the Institution. However, there can be evidence that the student was unaware that he or she committed plagiarism, and they should be placed within a class that will teach him or her how to cite properly. This will allow the student to understand what he or she needs to do for further assignments so they do not plagiarism again. MEAL and PAP Most students run into trouble when dealing with plagiarism by not using proper MEAL or PAP styles and formats when documenting someone elses ark. Most students are new to the academic writing process, and because of this students coming from high school might not be on par with the university writing level. These students who may not have the writing background will have quickly to assimilate int o the system to avoid plagiarism in all the forms. Understanding what plagiarism is will insure that the student will not plagiarism with further assignments. The Georgetown university Honor council states it best, as Students who submit written work in the University must be the authors of their own papers.Students who use facts or ideas irrigating with others must plainly distinguish what is theirs from what is not. To misrepresent ones work ignorantly is to show oneself unprepared to assume the responsibility presupposed by work on the college level. It should be obvious that none of this prohibits making use of the discoveries or ideas of others. What is prohibited is simply improper, unacknowledged use. This statement in the Honor Council explains that students must know how properly to cite for work borrowed from others. The ability properly to cite ones work is a skill that must be mastered by students when they transition into college academia. What is MEAL or the PAP format? MEAL format was established by and otherwise known as the Modern Language Association. MEAL is most often used in essays for humanities classes such as English and foreign language (FOCUS, 2007). PAP format is recommended by the American Physiological Association cite references properly. Learning these concepts will help students to know what to do to cite references, quotations, and give the credit due to the proper person. Conclusion In conclusion, understanding plagiarism and paraphrasing is very important. Understanding these terms are not only important for the students, instructors, and readers but this allows those who write from others to give proper credit. The best way to avoid plagiarism is for a student to allow themselves ample time to do research, read the research, and document it correctly. Use quotations and quotation marks to show the reader that these thoughts and ideas came from another person. This will ensure that the person whom originally had these thoughts and ideas is given credit for those thoughts and ideas. However, a person can agree with what someone else has written and believes that the statement is important. The student needs to make sure hey are giving the credit to the right person and to themselves. This is called stealing. What makes plagiarism? The writer has only changed around a few words and phrases, or changed the order of the originals sentences and the writer has failed to cite a source for any of the ideas and facts (Indiana university, 2004). To avoid plagiarism is simply the act of making proper citations and giving the credit to the original author. For example, if a student wrote a paper they worked on for hours, did research, properly cited his or her references, and received an A for an assignment that was outstanding. Would they like the fact someone else copied his or her words, thoughts, and ideas? I do not believe anyone would appreciate someone stealing his or her article. I believe that most people believe that they will never get caught popularizing because the vast areas to find information. For example, the World Wide Web, the web has thousands of documents that are available to students to research and read. However, some people believe that they can find these articles and the likelihood that someone will know this article is unlikely. That is not true, documents that are available on the internet are known to such orgasm as center for writing excellence. When taking information off the World Wide Web the rules apply as they do in other areas, such as, books and articles. When a student takes off information from a website he or she needs to cite the references correctly. Letting the readers know where they can find the information and where the information came from.I believe that when someone breaks the rules of plagiarism there should be a punishment set forth. The instructor sets the rules and punishments about plagiarism. For example, if a student plagiarisms for the first time he or she may receive an F for the paper submitted. The second time they may be reprehended to the point of suspension. Once academic dishonesty has been established I believe that the student committing the plagiarism should be held accountable for his or her misdeeds. A person has rules and regulations that must be followed each day.

How to Organize Compare-Contrast Paragraphs

How to Organize Compare-Contrast Paragraphs Organizing two compare-and-contrast paragraphs is just a mini version of creating a compare-and-contrast essay. This kind of essay examines two or more subjects by comparing their similarities and contrasting their differences.  In the same way, compare-contrast paragraphs compare and contrast two things in two separate paragraphs. There are two basic methods for organizing compare-contrast paragraphs: the block format and a format where the writer separates similarities and differences. Block Format When using the block format for a two-paragraph comparison, discuss one subject in the first paragraph and the other in the second, as follows: Paragraph 1: The opening sentence names the two subjects and states that they are very similar, very different or have many important (or interesting) similarities and differences. The remainder of the paragraph describes the features of the first subject without referring to the second subject. Paragraph 2: The opening sentence must contain a transition showing you are comparing the second subject to the first, such as: Unlike (or similar to) subject No. 1, subject No. 2... Discuss all the features of subject No. 2 in relation to subject No. 1 using compare-contrast cue words such as  like,  similar to, also, unlike, and on the other hand,  for each comparison. End this paragraph with a personal statement, a prediction or another enlightening conclusion. Separating Similarities and Differences When using this format, discuss only the similarities in the first paragraph and only the differences in the next. This format requires careful use of many compare-contrast cue words and is, therefore, more difficult to write well. Create the paragraphs as follows: Paragraph 1: The opening sentence names the two subjects and states that they are very similar, very different or have many important (or interesting) similarities and differences. Continue discussing similarities only using compare-contrast cue words such as like, similar to and also, for each comparison. Paragraph 2: The opening sentence must contain a transition showing that you are pivoting to discussing differences, such as: Despite all these similarities, (these two subjects) differ in significant ways. Then describe all the differences, using compare-contrast cue words such as differs, unlike, and on the other hand, for each comparison. End the paragraph with a personal statement, a prediction, or another compelling conclusion. Create a Pre-Writing Chart In organizing compare-contrast paragraphs, using either of the above methods, students may find it helpful to create a compare-contrast-prewriting chart. To create this chart, students would create a three-column table or chart with the following headers topping each column: Subject 1, Features, and Subject 2. Students then list the subjects and features in the appropriate columns. For example, a student might compare life in the city (Subject No. 1) vs. the country (Subject No. 2). To start, the student would list Entertainment, Culture, and Food, in the rows under the Features header. Then, next Entertainment, the student could list theaters, clubs under the City header and festivals, bonfires under the Country header. Next might be Culture in the Features column. Next to Culture, the student would list museums in the City column and historic places under the Country column, and so on. After compiling about seven or eight rows, the student can cross out the rows that seem least relevant. Crafting such a chart helps the student create an easy visual aid to help write the compare-contrast paragraphs for either of the previously discussed methods.

Business planning Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Business planning - Essay Example This paper presents a brief feasibility study about the ‘logistics’ business based in London to channelize the distribution of fresh fruits and vegetables to retail outlets around UK. The business idea The ‘Fresher Pvt Ltd’ will be a unique logistic and supply chain company and an exciting experience of ‘freshness’ designed to fulfill the responsibility of providing the target market with ‘fresh’ and premium quality natural products. The business idea is about logistics based in London to collect freshest and supreme quality natural fruits and vegetables directly from farms in different countries and supply them to retail outlets such as supercentres and hypermarkets. The very basic functional principle of the company will be based on the ‘six rights’ that a normal logistic company is required to fulfill. Therefore, the ‘Fresher’ is highly concerned about distributing the right and fresh fruits and vegetabl es to right customers at the right time in the right condition at the right place and at the right price (Voortman, 2004, p. 3). The ‘Fresher’ is not just a new opening of a logistic business, but, it is the output of a new idea to uncover a hidden market opportunity for meeting the demand for ‘fresh’ fruits and vegetables available in large-scale retail outlets in lowest price possible. Fruits and vegetable goods presently available in supermarkets, hypermarkets and other retail outlets often lack the quality and values of freshness that customers expect them to be. The Fresher Pvt. Ltd proposes to replace these goods with ‘freshest and most genuine natural fruits and vegetables’ supplied directly from farms around UK and from abroad. For this purpose, the company plans to enter in to strategic alliance with large-scale farmers in both UK and foreign countries including India and Sri Lanka to collect the most freshest goods directly from the f arms and to transport them as quickly as possible with latest cold-storage facilities to make them available in large retail outlets. Going directly to farms in other countries and collect fresh fruits and vegetables from the farmers seems an idealistic social movement. Thousands of farmers in countries like India are deprived of better facilities and opportunities to market their products. They neither get advanced facilities to transport or quickly supply them to markets nor get right prices for the goods they supply to markets. The ‘Fresher’ is going to influence the media to gain wider reputation for a social movement to extend the helps to poor farmers in other countries. The company proposes to utilize the resources, mainly the excess agricultural products that have been of no proper marketing use for that the farmers in India and other developing as well as under developed countries did not effectively market their products due to fewer facilities or decreased de mand or reduced prices for their goods. The ‘Fresher’ would satisfy these farmers by providing financial assistance for post-harvesting preservation and for advanced transportation facilities. The Fresher will increase the demand for their goods and value their products to return fair prices for their vegetables and fruits. The company helps them by creating a market for these premium and fresh

Essay --

The Armenian people are known to have begun around sixth century B.C. The Armenians are ancient people who speak an Indo-European language and have traditionally inhabited the border regions to Armenia, Iran, and Turkey. Armenians lived in Anatolia and West Armenia for about 3,000 years until the 11th century when they were defeated by Central Asian tribal armies. Since then, the Armenians have lived as subjects to several Turkish dynasties (Centuries of Genocide). Armenia was the very first nation to accept Christianity as its state religion. Armenia was an independent kingdom before it was taken over by the Ottoman Empire in the 15th century. The Ottomans created a huge empire going from Eastern Europe to Western Asia and North Africa. Armenians were Christians and Ottoman rulers were Muslim. The Armenian’s were a minority group under the Ottoman Empire and they were often treated unfairly. The Ottoman Empire deprived Armenians of their rights. Armenians had to pay higher taxes than Muslims, they had fewer legal rights and they were not allowed to vote. Even though they faced these challenges, the Armenian’s did very well under Ottoman rule. They were wealthier than the citizens of Turkey and they received a better education. It wasn’t long before Turks began to resent the Armenians. They did not trust them or their loyalty to other Christian governments. The Ottoman Empire began to fall apart in the 1800’s. As the empire disintegrated, Greeks, Serbs and Romanians achieved independence. Only the Armenians and the Arabs of the Middle East remained in the Ottoman Empire which was ruled by Sultan Abdul Hamid (unitedhumanrights.org). They Armenians demanded fairness from Sultan Hamid and wanted security from Kurd... ...problem is that Turkey is an ally to America and recognizing the Armenian genocide would harm relations between US and Turkey (Common Dreams). The United States needs Turkey for the war on terrorism because they have an airbase that the US forces use to get supplies to troops in Iraq. Several Resolutions have been presented to the US Congress over the years to recognize the Armenian Genocide. On May 20, 2013 HR Resolution 227 was introduced by the House of Representatives calling on the President â€Å"to work toward equitable, constructive, stable, and durable Armenian-Turkish relations based upon the Republic of Turkey’s full acknowledgment of the facts and ongoing consequences of the Armenian Genocide, and a fair, just, and comprehensive international resolution of this crime against humanity.† (H. Res. 227). The Bill is currently pending approval by US government.
